Alex and his two older siblings, pictured here with IU student Orr Raizman, were recently seen during the IU-Timmy Global Health medical trip to Xela, Guatemala. When the medical team reviewed the children’s charts they discovered that Alex, who appears to be about two years old and just learning to walk, was actually four. His brother and sister were also significantly under the average growth curve for their age range. Sadly, their slow growth is a side effect of chronic undernutrion, which afflicts nearly 50% of children in Guatemala — a country with the 4th highest rate of malnutrition in the world.
Your donation towards medical supplies and medication allowed Timmy Global Health to enroll each of these children and their mother in its Intensive Nutrition Program. This program will ensure that Alex and his siblings have the nutritional supplements they need to grow up healthy strong, and that their mother will have the knowledge and tools to monitor their growth and nutrition in the months to come.
Thank you all for your support!
